JBS Swift E. coli Lawsuit

Marler Clark’s E. coli lawyers sued JBS Swift Beef Company in United States District Court for the District of Colorado on July 6, 2009 in what was the first lawsuit filed against JBS Swift on behalf of a victim of the 2009 E. coli outbreak tied to meat produced in the JBS Swift Greeley, Colorado slaughterhouse.  In the following weeks, the law firm filed two additional lawsuits against JBS Swift on behalf of E. coli victims from Washington State and Wisconsin.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), at least 23 people became ill with E. coli O157:H7 infections after consuming JBS Swift meat products produced in April of 2009 and recalled in June of 2009.  The recalled products include intact cuts of beef, such as primals, sub-primals, or boxed beef typically used for steaks and roasts.  Some of the meat was manufactured into ground beef products after distribution.

The most recent list of retail establishments who sold JBS Swift meat products that may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7 is available from the FSIS website.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has also released a list of retail establishments that received the potentially E. coli-contaminated JBS Swift meat.  In a press release issued July 1, 2009, CFIA announced that President’s Choice brand beef products – steaks, roasts, and ground beef – with Best Before dates from April 29 to June 16 were subject to recall.
